My Story
Hello! I'm Diego "DV" Cortez (he/they), an NYC-based director, producer, performer, musician, and absolute massive nerd from Quezon City, Philippines.
Music and theater have always been in my life. According to my parents, I was singing before he could even speak his first words. There is no physical proof of this, therefore my parents are massive liars until proven otherwise. (Kidding, love you mom and dad.) At age 16, I assembled a creative team to write and compose an original musical for his school, going on to direct the production with a cast of over 400 students at the UP Diliman Theater.
I have directed, assistant-directed, produced, and performed in multiple plays, musicals, and cabarets across New York City. Notable credits include directing Have a Seat and Someone Will Be With You Shortly at The Barrow Group, assistant directing Proud Marys at the NAMT New Works Festival in 2024, and producing Songs I Never Thought I'd Sing at The Green Room 42 in 2023. I love developing new works, particularly those that uplift underrepresented stories and communities and examine themes of love, identity, and humanity. And also if they sing and dance that's really cool too.
Outside of my artistic pursuits, I am a devout coffee-drinker, a dungeon master for a weekly Dungeons & Dragons campaign, I build PCs, play video games, and wander around the city when it's nice out.
